I have been reading this for a couple of days now. I am at around 170 pages and I am hitting a bit of a slump. I love the narrative, and I am interested I just feel that the whore house was finally done with and now it is the plague! How are the rest of you doing with this heavy material. I will be honest that the sexual stuff, even though I know they did not go into detail (for the most part) it was still hard. Oh, and the Silvano guy with all his twisted violent acts.

I really hope there is some light in Immortal. I keep looking, and I know there are some good people, but still any of the good is under an umbrella of grief, death, and torture.

Sorry, maybe you are all having a great time with it, no difficulty at all. I just posted this so that we could all say how we are doing so far, good or bad.

I am not giving up on it, I will see it though :)

Hey Bethany, everyone takes a novel different ways and that's great-that's what makes for good discussions I think. I do like the book-I'm on page 220 and it's slowed down a bit for me. I'm with you on the sexual stuff though, I did have a hard time with that-just the cruelty is hard to fathom. I'm still at the plague but it's starting to come out from there so I will see where it's going now. I think there may be some light at the end of the tunnel yet. I do like the whole supernatural aspect and that of the book and I'm ok with dark novels so that may be why I like it.

I finished 'Immortal' tonight. Overall I'd say I liked it. I'm not raving about it but, for the most part, it was an enjoyable read. I thought it might have run a bit long and towards the end I felt like I'd been reading the book for days and days when really it only took me 4 days to get through. I'd give this new author a 2nd try.

I am at about the same place. Some of it has slowed down for me, but I'm also trying to read The Other Queen and Bad Monkeys all at the same time. Sometimes I can read more than one book at a time and other times I can't. I did have a hard time with the whore house section. I'm not sure if I can believe a place like that really existed. At the same time, I can't believe it didn't either. It just seems to me that people would have shut it down. Maybe I'm wrong. The topic about what was going to happen to the little girl about killed me. I'm thinking that I'm heading out of the plague darkness. I'm going to boldly carry on from here. :) Jen and Meghan really liked it, so I'm thinking it will pick up.

I just started reading Immortal and have gotten to the part with Luca in the brothel. I am not sure that I can get through this section and need your advice for those who have read it. I have a 9 year old son and it's painful to read this part! Although I reminded myself that the narrator Luca, definitely does not sound like a 9 year old child! He sounds like an adult or teen to me. IMO, most 9 year olds don't think or talk like Luca.

Is this section long and can I get through it with out nightmares?! Does the book improve or is there more things like this?

Thanks you guys!

redlady-bonnie- I have two little boys too, the section is not horribly descriptive as far as sex goes, but much more so with the violence. I made it through...but it just depends on what you are used to. I don't think anyone can tell you it will all be fine, since maybe it is for them, but it won't be for you. Sorry :(

I thought the brothel was the slowest part. I felt like it took a long time for Luca to get through it, but I found the rest of the book to be much better. It wasn't the fastest read, but I did feel it pick up after that.

I agree with medievalbookworm, it was the slowest part of the book. But maybe it seemed so slow because I was wishing for him to get out!!!
